The role of the speaker

The Speaker of the Cape Agulhas Municipality is one of 4 full time councillors. The Speaker has an office in Bredasdorp, but resides in Arniston / Waenhuiskrans. The Speaker is responsible for public participation and the functioning of ward committees. The Speaker is the chairperson at council meetings and decides on the place, time, venue and agenda in conjunction with the Municipal Manager for council meetings. When there's any breach of the code of conduct for councillors it's the responsibility of the speaker to bring it under the attention of council to decide on measures to be taken.
